LINCOLNTON, N.C. - The Lincoln County Sheriff's Office Citizen’s Police Academy participants learned about some of the department’s special operation teams, during their seventh week of the 12-week program. The Lincoln County Sheriff's Office has a wide range of special teams, including the SWAT Team and the Mobile Field Force Team. These teams are comprised of up to twenty officers from all divisions of the Sheriff’s Office with each serving a unique purpose.

The Special Weapons and Tactics Team (SWAT) may be utilized for a wide variety for reasons, including the execution of a high-risk search warrant or in response to an armed and barricaded subject. SWAT Team Commander Lieutenant J. Brown and Assistant Team Commander Lieutenant R. Jeffries, and other SWAT team members briefed participants about the specific roles of the SWAT Team. Participants were also able to see some of the equipment used by the teams, including the many vehicles used in SWAT Team operations.

The Lincoln County Sheriff's Office Mobile Field Force Team (Strategic Response Group) is a team tasked with maintaining order in mass gatherings, protests, or riots. Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office Detective D. Houser, who is a team leader for this group, discussed the various situations that may require this team to respond. Participants were able to see and use some of the equipment, utilized by this team, in a mock training scenario. Detective Houser taught the participants how formations can be used to keep order during a protest or riot situation, allowing them the chance to try these techniques out for themselves.

Next week the participants will continue to learn about Lincoln County Sheriff's Office special response teams, including presentations on the Dive Team, Swiftwater Rescue Team, Crisis Negotiations Team, Drone team, and Land Search Team.
